The Buford Artists' Colony
Located on Main Street in the historic tannery town of Buford, the Artists Colony is a collective of some 30 artisans including jewelers, potters, painters, furniture-makers and other artists. Galleries, studios, and cafes line Main Street. Visitors can browse through the Museum on Main Street, or enjoy Buford's "Artrageous Art Walk," held the second weekend of each month. Chateau Elan
This 3,100-acre complex is a winery and a full-service resort. It includes more than 200 acres of vineyards and a visitor's center built in the style of a 16th century French chateau. The chateau houses an art gallery, two restaurants and three large murals depicting the history of winemaking, a Paris train station and a French town square. The visitor center is open year-round, 7 days a week, for free tours and tastings. Chateau elan also has a large inn, an 80-room lodge, four other restaurants, three 18-hold golf courses, a 9-hole, par 3 course, European spa, tennis complex, equestrian show ring center and authentic Irish Pub. Chattachoochee River Recreation Areas
Two units of the more than 4,200-acre Chattahoochee River National Recreational Area are located in Gwinnett County. Abbotts Bridge off Hwy. 120 and Medlock Bridge off Medlock Bridge Road. The Georgia Aquarium 
The Georgia Aquarium opens on November 23, 2005 and will stake its claim as the World’s Largest Aquarium. Gwinnett County Civic & Cultural Center
The Gwinnett County Civic & Cultural Center is a multi-purpose facility that serves as both a convention and exhibition center and as a home for the performing arts. The recently renovated facility includes an exhibition hall with some 50,000 square feet of convertible space, 14 executive meeting rooms, a ballroom with some 6,000 square feet, and on-site caterer and a 700 - seat Performing Arts Theatre. Gwinnett History Museum
The Gwinnett History Museum is located in the historic Lawrenceville Female Seminary, listed on the National Register of Historic laces. The museum houses a variety of Georgian historic and folk artifacts all related to the history of Gwinnett County and its people. Some of the disp0lays interpret 19th through early 20th century school days, farm life, religion and fine examples of folk furnishings crafted by natives of the county. Historic Courthouse
Gwinnett County has a number of interesting historical structures, including the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse (1885) on the square in downtown Lawrenceville. The courthouse is open free to the public for tours Tuesday - Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The Gwinnett Historical Society (770) 822-5174 operates the Gwinnett History Center on the second floor of the Historic Courthouse and can provide information on the county's historic attractions, such as the Elisha Winn Home (1812). Lake Lanier Islands
One of the busiest and most popular recreation lakes in the United States, the 1,200 acre Lake Lanier Islands complex offers a variety of activities, including boating, fishing, water skiing, sailing, picnicking and horseback riding. The Beach and Water Park features water slides, a wave pool, recreation boats, a mini-golf course and a white-sand beach. They have open 30 rental lake houses, a new interactive water attraction and have a new 65 passenger excursion boat. Also part of the complex are two resort hotels and two 18 hole golf courses. Landers-Cain House
The birthplace of Eli Pinson Landers, a Confederate soldier from Gwinnett County whose moving letters have been memorialized in the award-winning book, Weep Not For Me, Dear Mother. The historic home is located behind Sweetwater Cemetery on Pleasant Hill Road. The cemetery has over thirty graves of Confederate soldiers. For more information please call (770) 441-1645.

Lanier Museum of Natural History
Operated by the Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation Division, the museum focuses on the county's natural and cultural history. Attractions include a reptile collection, wildlife exhibits and a butterfly garden. Special events and programs are scheduled year-round. Located at 2601 Buford Dam Road, Buford. Mechanicsville School House
The last one-room school house in Gwinnett County, built in 1911, is located on the corner of Third Avenue and Florida Avenue in Doraville. Presently, in restoration by the Norcross, Mechanicsville, Pinckneyville Historical Society.


Southeastern Railway Museum
This 30-acre, open-air museum features more than 90 pieces of rolling stock including vintage steam locomotives, the historic Presidential Pullman car "Superb," World War II troop kitchens and wooden freight cars. Featuring train rides on full-size restored cabooses. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursdays-Fridays; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays; noon-5 p.m. third Sundays. $6; $4 senior citizens and ages 2-12. Stone Mountain Park
The main attraction at the 3,200-acre park is, of course, the mountain itself, the world's largest exposed mass of granite featuring the famous carving of Confederate heroes. The park offers lodging, camping, swimming, fishing, tennis and golf. It has picnic areas, a sky lift, a beach, a 10-building antebellum plantation, a paddlewheel riverboat, a scenic railroad, a wildlife preserve and petting zoo, and a museum highlighting the history of the carving. Special events are held throughout the year and a laser show is presented on the mountain's face during the spring through fall months. Located on Highway 78 in Stone Mountain. Yellow River Game Ranch
This see and touch attraction features such animals as deer, buffalo, fox, bears, mountain lions and raccoons in a 24-acre naturally wooded preserve along the banks of the Yellow River. The game ranch is the home of General Beauregard Lee, Georgia's official prognosticator or Groundhog Day. Open 7 days a week at 9:30 a.m.; closing varies by season. Atlanta Cyclorama

Atlanta History Center
From cotton fields to railroads, from the Civil War to civil rights, you'll find the real story of Atlanta's past at the Atlanta History Center. Tour the city's most exciting museum---the 83,000-square-foot Atlanta History Museum. In award-winning exhibitions, you'll learn how Atlanta grew into the South's leading city, about African American history, the Civil War, "Gone With the Wind" and more.
   The story continues at two houses listed in the National Register of Historic Places: Swan
House, an elegant 1928 mansion, and Tullie Smith Farm, with its 1845 plantation-plain house and outbuildings. Additionally, visitors enjoy 33 acres of beautiful gardens and nature trails. McElreath Hall contains the Center's research library/archives with manuscript and photo collections totaling 3.5 million items. Located in Buckhead just three blocks from Peachtree Road, the Center also offers a Museum Shop, The Coca Cola Cafe, a restaurant and picnic area.
   The Center is open Monday-Saturday 10:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Sunday noon-5:30 p.m. (Ticket sales stop at 4:30 p.m. daily, and three hours are recommended to tour the entire center). The library/archives is open Tuesday-Saturday 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. General Admission includes museum, all exhibitions and gardens.  Free for members. There is a small additional charge for admission to the historic houses; $1 per person for Tullie Smith Farm and $1 per person for Swan House. Prices are subject to change without notice. Callaway Gardens
Callaway Gardens is a 14,000 acre, year-round world-class horticultural display garden and resort. Fernbank Museum of Natural History

Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site
