Gwinnett government Open House, com see how we work for you
Lawrenceville, Ga., (April 24, 2008) – What does Gwinnett County government do for its citizens? To find out, come to the 8th annual Gwinnett County Open House this Saturday, April 26 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. This event is a local celebration of National County Government Week and will be held at Rhodes Jordan Park Community Recreation Center in Lawrenceville.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Protecting Our Children.” Public safety officers from the Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Sheriff’s and Corrections departments will be on hand to provide information about various initiatives the County has undertaken to protect children and families. In addition, the Sheriff’s department will provide free ID tags to children and a special presentation will be given by Park Police about park safety. Visitors will also get to explore a crime scene investigation van, ladder truck and other emergency vehicles.
Many other County offices and programs will also be represented to provide information to the public about what they do, how they do it and the people behind the services the County provides: Communications, Cooperative Extension Service, Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful, Elections, Geographical Information Systems, Health and Human Services, Human Resources, Library, License and Revenue, Parks and Recreation, Planning and Development, Tax Assessor, Transportation and Water Resources.
In addition to the displays, free refreshments will be available while supplies last. Free children’s activities will include pony rides, a petting zoo, sand art, face painting, temporary tattoos and a moonwalk. A DJ will play music to entertain the crowd during the rain or shine event.
