ATLANTA (April 28, 2008) – Today Governor Sonny Perdue announced that he and First Lady Mary Perdue will host a State Luncheon in honor of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday, May 8, 2008. The State Luncheon will be held at the Governor's Mansion in Atlanta. Cultural, political, military and religious leaders from across Georgia have been invited to attend.

"Our state is known across the globe as a center for culture and commerce, and the Secretary-General's visit demonstrates that Georgia is truly a part of the world community," said Governor Sonny Perdue.
"We are deeply honored that the Secretary-General has chosen to visit our state and we look forward to giving him a warm, southern welcome."

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon became the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations on January 1, 2007. He previously served as foreign minister for his native country, the Republic of Korea. His career in diplomacy began the year after he graduated from college and has continued for nearly forty years.
