Georgia State Board for General and Residential Contractors Begins Mailing State Licenses

Atlanta (May 6, 2008) — Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel today announced that the Georgia State Board for General and Residential Contractors is mailing licenses to approved applicants.

To date, 17,248 applicants have been approved for licensure. The number of approved applicants for licensure by category is as follows:

General Contractor Company 1,192

General Contractor Individual 182

General Contractor Qualifying Agent 1,351

Residential Basic Company 3,138

Residential Basic Individual 2,923

Residential Basic Qualifying Agent 3,517

Residential Light Commercial Individual 1,099

Residential Light Company 1,816

Residential Light Qualifying Agent 2,030

   Georgia law requires that all construction contractors receive licensure from the Board by July 1, 2008. The Georgia State Board for General and Residential Contractors has received 19,026 individual applications and 11,471 company applications for licensure.

   The Board is scheduled to meet every Wednesday until July 1, 2008 to review denials that were appealed by applicants.

Approved applicants who do not receive their license by May 15, 2008 should contact the Professional Licensing Boards at (478) 207-2440.

   Construction contractors who have not applied for licensure should do so as soon as possible to ensure the Board has ample time to review the application prior to the deadline for licensure.
