Gwinnett Planning and Development gets new computer system

Lawrenceville, Ga., (May 6, 2008) – A computer system upgrade will soon be helping Gwinnett property owners get permits, schedule required County inspections and check on the results by making current information available by Internet or phone.

Glenn Stephens, Director of Planning and Development, said, “The improvements will also give our inspectors wireless access from the field to greatly improve our efficiency.” Commissioners on Tuesday approved a contract with TruePoint Solutions, LLC, for almost a million dollars to provide the new capabilities.

The software by Accela, Inc., is specifically designed for government services. Gwinnett is now using modules for land management, citizen access, interactive voice response, wireless communications and direct access to the County’s geographic information systems data.

The upgrade is part of an extensive, ongoing effort across all departments to improve services by making better use of new technologies.
