Gwinnett road improvements paid for by SPLOST

Lawrenceville, Ga., (May 7, 2008) – Pleasant Hill Road will be widened from its newly improved intersection with Buford Highway to Old Norcross Road near Gwinnett Place Mall, extending the existing six-lane roadway around the mall.

“These improvements will ease current congestion between Duluth and the mall/I-85 area,” said Transportation Director Brian Allen. The lowest of five bidders, E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc., received the nearly $8.4 million contract from the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday.

Sidewalks on both sides of Pleasant Hill are included along with a raised center median and a multi-use path connecting Shorty Howell Park to an existing path on North Berkeley Lake Road. There will also be an auxiliary lane on the south side of Pleasant Hill from Steve Reynolds Boulevard to North Berkeley Lake Road.

The Board also approved adding a traffic signal and turn lanes to the intersection of Buford Dam Road and Suwanee Dam Road along with turn lanes and sidewalks for two new schools in the area, White Oak Elementary and Lanier Middle. Strickland and Sons Pipeline, Inc., was the lowest of 10 bidders and got the $1.7 million contract.

All of these road improvements are being funded by the 2005 SPLOST program.
