Greater Atlanta Hadassah to Present
Forum on Genetic Disease Risks in the Jewish Population 

From Generation to Generation: Is Your Family at Risk for a Jewish Genetic Disease? 

ATLANTA, GA (January 21, 2010) - Did you know that there are at least 10 genetic disorders that occur more frequently in the Jewish population? Or that the incidence of Tay-Sachs disease has been greatly reduced in the Jewish community through successful carrier screening? Come learn more about the risks of genetic disease in the Jewish population at this important event. The event takes place Sunday, February 21, 2:15 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. 

Speakers will be Karen Grinzaid, MS, CGC, CCRC – Grinzaid is a board-certified genetic counselor and clinical/research coordinator in the Lysosomal Storage Disease Center at the Emory University School of Medicine’s Department of Human Genetics. Rachel Schonberger, MD – Schonberger, who is president of Hadassah’s Southeast Region, will highlight Hadassah’s genetic advocacy and the genetic research taking place at Hadassah Hospital. Sharyn Lane will share her personal experiences living with a Jewish genetic disease. 

The presenting organization is the Greater Atlanta Hadassah and sponsors are Genzyme Therapeutics, Congregation Beth Shalom Sisterhood, and The Amit Program. 

The free event will be held at the Congregation Beth Shalom, 5303 Winters Chapel Road, Dunwoody.
